Nausea can make an ordinary day unexpectedly difficult: lunch smells unpleasant, drinks are hard to tolerate or travelling to work becomes uncomfortable. Your treatment team needs to know more than whether you feel sick. Explain which everyday activities the symptom is preventing.

Describe nausea and vomiting separately
Nausea is the unpleasant feeling that you might be sick. Vomiting is a separate event that can cause additional fluid loss. Record when you felt nauseated and whether you actually vomited as two different observations. The duration of each episode can also be useful.
Wegovy and Mounjaro product information describes these symptoms. Other causes, including an infection or another medicine, may nevertheless contribute. Timing in relation to treatment is relevant but does not prove the cause. Avoid assuming that every new symptom comes from your weight medicine.
Make daily routines temporarily easier
For mild nausea without warning signs, smaller meals and eating slowly may feel more comfortable. Choose foods whose smell and texture you can tolerate. Very large, fatty or strongly scented meals may be unpleasant; this does not require a permanent list of forbidden foods.
Allow some time and a calm setting. If a large meal feels difficult, preparing a smaller portion may be practical. The aim is not to push your intake even lower. Repeatedly struggling to eat enough is a reason to involve your treatment team and, where appropriate, a qualified dietitian.
Watch fluid intake without forcing a fixed target
Small, regular sips may be easier with mild nausea than a large glass at once. Notice whether drinks stay down and whether you pass much less urine than usual. If you have a prescribed fluid restriction, for example because of a heart or kidney condition, you need individual advice.
If vomiting or diarrhoea occurs, ask the pharmacy or practice about suitable support for replacing fluids and salts. An arbitrary sports drink or homemade mixture is not automatically equivalent to an appropriate oral rehydration solution. Product suitability depends on your circumstances and professional advice.
Know when the next routine appointment is too late
If you repeatedly vomit and cannot keep fluids down, seek urgent medical help that same day. Much less urine, persistent dizziness on standing or marked weakness after fluid loss also need urgent assessment. Confusion, difficulty waking or collapse are reasons to contact the local emergency service.
Severe, persistent abdominal pain requires immediate medical assessment. Vomiting blood or material resembling coffee grounds is also an emergency. These signs are not made harmless by the fact that nausea is common. Dietary suggestions must not delay assessment when serious symptoms occur.
Prepare a specific conversation
Record the start, frequency, possible triggers and your last scheduled use of the medicine. Add what you managed to eat and drink, together with other treatments. A short description such as nausea for several hours after breakfast without vomiting gives the team a useful starting point.
Ask which changes the team might consider and when you should report back. Medicines for nausea and changes to weight treatment require a professional decision. If you have already missed a scheduled use, follow the product-specific leaflet and seek personal advice rather than applying a general online catch-up rule.
Prepare a useful update
- Record nausea and actual vomiting separately.
- Describe your ability to drink and the effect on meals.
- Seek immediate or same-day help when warning signs occur.
Common questions
Does nausea mean the treatment is working especially well?
No. Symptoms are neither proof of success nor a treatment goal. Good care considers health, benefit and tolerability together. Being barely able to eat or drink should not be interpreted as desirable progress or something you must endure to achieve an effect.
Must I avoid every food that once made me feel sick?
Not automatically. One episode does not establish an intolerance. Record noticeable situations and discuss repeated patterns. An increasingly restrictive food list can unnecessarily limit your nutrition. Persistent difficulty is better addressed through individual professional support.
